After many years of writing and editing award winning children’s books, the 2013 release of The Lullaby Illusion represented a new phase in the career of Susan Joyce.
Susan introduces this new episode in her memoirs with these words:
Do you believe that your human potential is greater than your day-to-day state of being?
Do you sometimes experience “weirdness” or “extraordinary moments” that seem to be glimpses into an alternative reality?
Good Morning Diego Garcia is a psychological and psychic exploration forged in the chaos of horrendous storms in the Indian Ocean during monsoon season. Following the loss of a child, war in Cyprus, and with growing suspicions that her husband has a secret life, Susan confronts the elements, and evidence that nothing is as it seems.
Synopsis
You’re young, living comfortably in southern California. You’re financially secure, though you don’t know why or how. Your husband simply ignores you when you ask too many questions. He’s hoping for another job overseas, doing something. You’re not sure what, but you suspect it’s not what he says.
You marriage is shaky. You survived a war in Cyprus together, and lost everything. Now you’re basically biding time.
A letter arrives from friends you knew in Cyprus. They’re sailing a new yacht from Taiwan to Europe for a Swedish millionaire. You’re invited to join them in Sri Lanka, as crew. Neither of you knows boats, but you’ll learn — it will be the trip of a lifetime, cruising the Indian Ocean in a pleasure yacht!
And, it turns out, in monsoon season. With no charts. And an emotionally unstable crew mate. What could possibly go wrong?
SPOILER: everything.
5 Star Reviews from Amazon Readers
A Two-day Read
As you read this exciting book just keep reminding yourself, the author is alive and that fact is stunning in light of their adventurous ocean crossing. This book is a highly entertaining read, causing me to get little accomplished for a short time. I've not had an ocean voyage grip me like this since reading The Perfect Storm. Kudos, Susan Joyce. Buy this book and prepare for great entertainment.
Wow what a ride!
The story will keep you on the edge of seat.
A MUST READ!
A Journey Continued …
Well - if I thought the author's adventures in her first book "The Lullaby Illusion" were gripping, then this book confirms that Susan Joyce has had some incredible experiences in her life. Her monsoon ridden sailing trek from Sri Lanka via Diego Garcia to the Seychelles is brilliantly captured and layered with rather more personal introspections and fabulous encounters with local cuisines. I spent the entire book thanking the universe that she had kept a journal during these adventures. She has the ability to make food sizzle off the page and grab your taste buds, such is her familiarity with herbs, spices and exotic ingredients. She even sent me to the pantry to check on my supply of turmeric and fenugreek! If you would like some understated James Bond mixed with extreme Lonely Planet adventures combined with a Chef's Guide to Asian Cooking, then this wonderful memoir is well worth a read.
Harnessing the four cornerstones life
Many people choose to spend much of their lives in the safe comfort and security of what is known to them. A few people like Author Susan Joyce, seem to spend a great portion of their time discovering new ways of broadening their life experiences and their encounters with discomfort, irrespective of it being one or four cornerstones of life, physical, emotional, intellectual or spiritual. The saving grace for the author is her willingness and ability to grow and learn from these encounters.
